The Offa Descendants’ Union, ODU, under the able leadership of Alhaji Muideen Olaniyi Azeez-Salako, has sent a condolence message to the Offa royal family, particularly the Anilelerin clan and the people of Offa and Kwara State, over the demise of the Aremo Olomo’ba of Offa Kingdom and Baba Adinni of Kwara State, Professor Jimoh Mosobalaje Olayooye Oyawoye.
Prof. Oyawoye, a former ODU National President, former Chairman JNI, former Chairman of the Board of WAEC, and former Chairman of GTB, dies on Monday, May 22, 2023, at the age of 96 years.
In a condolence message by Idowu Muhydeen Oladipo, ODU’s National Social Secretary and Acting NPRO, the union said that it received the news of the passing of the first Professor of Geology in Africa with rude shock and great sadness. Prof. Oyawoye was an astute scientist, administrator, great man of inestimable quality, visionary and innovative leader, and nation-builder who had touched the lives of many positively, as characterised by his honesty, sincerity, integrity, devotion, and selfless service to the people.
In the words of the late great Nelson Mandela, “Death is something inevitable. When a man has done what he considers to be his duty to his people and his country, he can rest in peace.” “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.”
The late Prof. Oyawoye leaves behind indelible contributions to the social and economic development of his community and the nation. His achievements while serving as ODU National Secretary and later National President are still fresh in our memories. The big shoes he left behind will be difficult to fill.
ODU prays for the repose of his soul and fortitude for the family members and the people of Offa, Ibolo, and Kwara States to bear the loss.
