Few hours after the alleged letter from the state government to the Olu of Ile Igbo, there are reports that Governor Ademola Adeleke has stopped the gazzetting of proposed granting of prescribed authority to appoint minor chiefs for the Olu of Ile Ogbo.
The Governor was reportedly unhappy that due process was not followed as most villages listed under the letter falls under Iwo town and the Oluwo of Iwoland, the paramount ruler for Iwoland under which Ile Igbo belongs, was not involved or consulted.
The Governor was said to be shocked at security reports on the activities of Olu of Igbo especially on the issue of land sale and timber lumbering which is already generating communal heat across Iwoland.
There were reports that the Olu of Ile Ogbo was already using the alleged letter of authority to process possible sale of lands in the villages listed, villages being contested as belonging to Iwo town itself.
Our correspondent at the Governor’s Office revealed that Governor Adeleke counted the alleged letter to the Olu of Igbo as an attempt to destroy the good relationship he currently enjoys with the people of Iwoland.
” The Governor was not happy. He directed the gazzetting of the planned prescribed authority to stop forthwith. The management of the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs was directed to stop right away. The ministry was also warned to stop processing letters on chieftaincy matters without engaging all stakeholders and without exhausting all platforms for due process”, a source at the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs noted.
