WHAT A SHAME!
The news of Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahamman Abdulrasak list of seven nominees each from a Local Government to constitute board of Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWISEC) was received with miss feelings.
While numerous applauded the move under the guise of ‘better late than never’, many have described the excercise has mere political gimmick to raise the hope of Kwarans whom Mr Governor has long deprived of the closest tier of Government that guarantees their welfare and development at grassroots throughout his first term of four years in office.
The unavailing of nominee list by the Government official today has brought shame to APC big wigs in OFFA Local Government who have destroyed and castigated almost everyone in the opposition party with continuous vilification of Saraki Dynasty just to establish Gov. Ramoni as the best for OFFA. Any political figure not in APC is tagged and seen as enemy of OFFA community.
Despite the luring of OFFA people under the above sentiments to amass huge vote for Gov. Abdulrahamman Abdulrasak/APC in the just concluded General Election in OFFA Local Government, it beat one’s imagination that OFFA Local Government could be missing on such important list of nomination, not securing a spot among seven most politically valuable LG in Governor’s nomination for KWISEC speaks volume.
Although, we are not surprised as a politically informed group, we only found it shameful that the anticipated disappointment and disgrace came earlier than expected. Any Local Government where political elites sold their community so cheap just to earn needless political credit before the Government will end up missing in strategic appointment/benefit like this KWISEC.
Offa APC elites has created a very bad impression about OFFA Community before the Governor and such will continue to hurt OFFA in the power sharing equation in the state if not remedied immediately. Offa can’t be taken for granted, OFFA deserves the best and not just anything the Government likes. Instead of upholding OFFA pride and value, OFFA is presented as a LG that will take anything as if we are not a ranking LG in the state. Imagine a Local Government where just a family can tared over 10km Offa-Igbonna Road as donation for the community received a State Government major intervention road project as rehabilitation of 1.6km out of 16km Offa – Ikotun Road with only 900m Executed. This is the first time in the history of Kwara when a State Government will rehabilitated less than 1/4 of a road project. Most unfortunately such ugly trend started in OFFA, yet some elites were all over the media celebrating such a ridiculous move cum embarrassing rehabilitation work offer, far less to what Local Government Authority can and had been offering in terms of road intervention project.
Whereas other Local Governments such as Ekiti Local Government which understands community’s interest above personal or individual’s interest secured 11.1km Osi – Obbo Ayegunle road rehabilitation project fully executed as well a spot in the KWISEC.
This should serve as lesson to OFFA political elites to always place Offa community ahead of self interest. They should strive to repackage Offa before APC/Governor AA administration before it’s too late. It’s either Mr Governor has resumed the treatment melted on other OTOGE pillars shortly after 2019 general election on Offa APC big wigs or he is taking advantage that Offa has been sold cheaply. We have been portrayed as a LG that doesn’t mind anything be it critical or less critical.
Such mentality and impression created by Offa political elites in the ruling party should be worked upon and changed for posterity sake.
Offa Deserves Better.
