Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the presidential election in Benue state.
Faruk Kuta, returning officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), announced the result on Monday at the INEC head office in Makurdi, the state capital.
APC’s Tinubu polled 310,468 votes, followed by Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) who secured 308,372 votes.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got 130,081 votes, while the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) polled 4,740 votes.
Obi won 15 LGAs including Guma, where Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue, hails from, while Tinubu secured eight LGAs.
The official announcement of the winner is expected.
On Saturday, Ortom cast his vote for Obi in the presidential election at his polling unit in Tse-Ortom, Mzondu ward, Guma LGA.
Ortom, who was contesting Benue’s north-west senatorial election, said he said he was ready to lose his bid to ensure Obi wins the presidential election.
The governor is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
TheCable had reported how Titus Zam, the APC candidate, defeated Ortom to clinch the Benue north-west senatorial seat earlier on Monday.
