To further wage war against corruption in education, the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit of The Federal Polytechnic Offa in line with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) held a day sensitization program on common corrupt practices in tertiary institutions and tracking constituency projects initiatives.

The program was held on Tuesday 21st of February 2023 at the Polytechnic main campus.

Speaking at the event, the representative of ICPC resident commissioner for Osun State, Mr. Azeez Lawal noted that corruption has become a cankerworm in Nigeria and it takes all hands to be on deck to tame the evil tide.

While speaking on the theme titled tracking constituency projects initiative, Mr. Lawal said the role of ICPC in the monitoring and evaluation of zonal intervention projects is to improve the delivery of social welfare services to citizens, value money in the execution of public services, increase recovery of public funds and improve opportunity for the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals(SDG).

Also, Reverend Ayo Adeyemo from the Department of Languages of The Federal Polytechnic Offa who delivered a lecture on Common Corrupt Practices in Nigeria Tertiary Institutions noted that extortion of students, illegal collection of dues and charges, and compulsory sales of books and journals among many others constitute corrupt practices in educational institutions. He charged staff and students to be bold enough to report to the necessary information quarter/authority when being exploited or intimated.

He also suggested that the Anti-corruption and Transparency Unit, Servicom, and other related units in tertiary institutions should rise to fight the menace through regular seminars, sensitization, and probing into the activities of staff and students on campus.

Earlier, the Ag. Rector, Mr. Eghe Igbinehi represented by the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Rasaq Femi Quadri commended the Anti-Corruption Unit for organizing the program. He emphasized the management’s efforts in the war against corruption in education through a series of campaigns and sensitization against the menace. He added that the Polytechnic Management will not relent in its support for the Anti Corruption Unit of the Polytechnic against corruption and related offenses.

Subsequently, the Anti-Corruption Unit unveiled a billboard to sensitize the Polytechnic community and preach the management’s stand against corruption and other vices.
