The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency in Kwara State, Honourable Hassan Oyeleke has said that he aspired to empower his constituents through interventional projects if elected.
Oyeleke stated this in a recent interview on Okin 105.7 FM, Offa, Kwara State.
He said: “there’s something called Constituency Development Funds (CDFs). These are funds given to members of parliament for expenditure on their constituencies. The members have access to these funds but won’t be able to collect or divert anywhere except for projects. They can give #300M to each House of Representatives member, sometimes it could be more, say #800M. These funds are used to buy transformers, tar roads, water projects and other yearnings.
“If you exhaust your CDFs as a Representative, you can lobby for more from the Federal Government funds which is National budgets. That is, if Federal government budgets #400B for road construction, you can lobby for a part. They won’t give you the money but you can use the funds to facilitate road projects in your constituency. In fact it’s the Federal Government that will give you contractors that will handle the project.
“All these motorcycles, tricycles, head dryers, grinding machines, etc they give them to Representatives. They used to give them the monies for it, but they have stopped now.
“What I want to do is that I have known how much they give Federal Representative and how Representatives can facilitate soft loans for his/her constituents; this is what I want to do.
“No graduate in my constituency shall continue to be commercial motorcycle rider. I won’t give graduates motorcycles I would rather facilitate soft loans for them to start Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises. We will also look for jobs for them.
“My empowerment programmes will help mitigate youth restiveness and other related social vices in the constituency and add value to the living standard of the people both financially and socially. I am assuring you that more better things will come as I remain focused and determined in delivering quality people’s oriented representation across the 3 Kwara LGAS of our constituency.
“I shall continue to make our people happy it is dream comes reality to put smiles on faces and lives of people irrespective of tribe religion and affiliation our constituents must always experience sure possibilities.
“I want our people to note that with their mandate entrust to me more dividends of democracy will be sustained I appeal for your support to continue and embark on massive attraction of quality projects to Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency,” Oyeleke said.
Hon Oyeleke added that if his people believe and trust him to elect him to national assembly, he will facilitate empowerment aimed
at improving the socio-economic situation of the beneficiaries.
He stressed that as a member who would represent the Federal Constituency it is his commitment in making sure Kwara constituents are lifted above poverty.
