…Says despite trauma caused by politically sponsored media trial ,the EFCC had exonerated him from all allegations
Former commissioner for finance in the state, Honorable Nurudeen Ademola Banu has explained his ordeals in the hands of officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC , over a politically motivated N411million money laundering charges pressed against him shortly after he left office in 2019.
Banu , who said he was surprised that the previous leadership of EFCC could advanced such a baseless allegation, which they knew was lacking in any substantial evidence to court , having subjected him to days of unlawful detention and media trials .
He said despite all he went through , he was happy that almighty Allah vindicated him after he was exonerated by the prosecuting agency, the EFCC, following lack of evidence which linked him to all allegations contained in the politically ventilated petition.
Banu disclosed that both allegations of N411million money laundering preferred against him and that of N1billion loan, which the petitioners claimed was diverted under past administration , were thoroughly investigated by the EFCC officials and later found to be false and baseless.
While lauding the EFCC display of professionalism under its current leadership , he urged people in government to shun the usual pull him down politics , aimed at destroying peoples reputation and integrity , noting that such actions , if not addressed , could push away decent people who have good hearts of service from participating in politics .
Explaining how he triumphed over the case , he said, the EFCC, discharged and withrew the case after detailed investigation and highly publicised court trials, discovered that the petitioners did not have any evidence to prove their allegations.
He added that although, the media trials and entire court processes jolted, traumatised and affected his health, he returns all glory to almighty who saw him through to the end of the ordeal as against the intention of his political adversaries
Giving details of what the N1 billion loan was used for , the former Commissioner said
“The N1 billion was used to pay the monthly commitments of the ministries and the outstanding obligations of the contractors/ Consulatants. Subsequently, the EFCC used the opportunity to carry out a detailed investigation of all our financial transactions, including the local government accounts. It was gratifying to say that nothing inappropriate was found against me”
