The Kwara State Government, on Wednesday, extended relief materials and financial assistance to residents affected by the December 25, 2025 ordnance incident in Offa, Offa Local Government Area of the state.
The intervention was carried out through the Kwara State Emergency Management Agency, in collaboration with the Offa Local Government Council.
The exercise, held in Offa, was led by officials of KWASEMA, who represented the Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, alongside the Executive Chairman of Offa Local Government, Hon Sulaiman Olatunji Laaro Omituntun, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Hon Abdulwahab Femi Agbaje Whyte.
Speaking during the distribution of the relief items and cash support, the government delegation conveyed the sympathy of the governor to the affected families, describing the incident as painful and distressing.
They noted that the intervention was aimed at easing the immediate hardship faced by victims while reassuring them of the government’s commitment to their welfare, safety and recovery.
According to the delegation, the gesture reflected the AbdulRazaq administration’s people-centred approach to governance and its resolve to respond promptly to emergencies and humanitarian needs across the state.
Omituntun, while addressing beneficiaries, commended the state government for what he described as a timely and compassionate response, noting that the support would go a long way in helping victims stabilise after the incident.
He assured residents that the local government would continue to work closely with state authorities and security agencies to prevent a recurrence and strengthen community safety.
Some of the beneficiaries, who spoke during the exercise, expressed appreciation to the state and local governments for not abandoning them after the incident, describing the intervention as a sign of responsive leadership and genuine concern for the people of Offa.
The December 25 incident had caused panic in parts of Offa, with several residents sustaining injuries and properties damaged, prompting calls for government intervention and support.
