Former Edo State Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, on Friday visited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, describing the meeting as a goodwill call and an opportunity to celebrate Nigeria’s growing global visibility.
Speaking with State House correspondents after the visit, Oshiomhole said he went to extend New Year greetings to the President, noting that he had not met him physically for several years.
He, however, used the occasion to commend the recent international acknowledgement of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, during the United States National Prayer Breakfast, describing it as a source of pride for the country.
The former Edo governor said the recognition reflects positively on Nigeria and highlights the nation’s presence on the global stage. He stressed that such moments should be seen as collective achievements deserving of national celebration.
Oshiomhole also underscored the symbolic importance of the acknowledgement in the context of Nigeria’s religious diversity. According to him, the reference to a Muslim President with a Christian wife who serves as a pastor reinforces the message of unity and coexistence among Nigerians.
He urged citizens to embrace a shared commitment to national development, noting that the country’s challenges require collective responsibility and cooperation.
The senator maintained that the development should inspire renewed confidence in the country’s leadership and encourage Nigerians to work together towards overcoming socio-economic challenges and strengthening national cohesion.
