Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has launched a blistering critique of President Bola Tinubu’s inner circle, alleging that the President is being poorly advised by individuals he described as “hooligans and charlatans,” whose actions, he warned, could have far-reaching political consequences.
The governor made the remarks on Thursday during an appearance on Sunrise Daily, a breakfast programme on Channels Television, where he spoke with palpable frustration about what he sees as mounting pressure on opposition figures to align with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mohammed claimed that certain power brokers around the President are intent on undermining him politically, allegedly pushing him to abandon the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC. According to the Bauchi governor, such manoeuvres reflect a broader culture of intolerance and impunity within the corridors of power.
In a particularly pointed remark, Mohammed accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of being a liability to the current administration. While stressing that he harbours no personal animosity towards the former Rivers State governor, Mohammed argued that Wike’s political posture has been destabilising, both to the government and to the opposition PDP.
He alleged that Wike’s actions within the PDP had weakened party cohesion, describing him as politically conflicted and suggesting that his allegiance remains questionable. Mohammed recalled past events at the party secretariat to underscore what he portrayed as Wike’s dual loyalties, insisting that such conduct runs contrary to both political ethics and natural order.
Beyond personal grievances, the Bauchi governor issued a broader caution to Nigeria’s political leadership. He warned against arrogance and the abuse of power, noting that decisions taken in the heat of political dominance often carry unintended consequences.
“We are leaders today,” Mohammed said in substance, “but leadership must be tempered with humility and accountability. Impunity may appear convenient, but it never goes unquestioned.”
