The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) have locked horns over the cause of a recent power outage that plunged parts of Oyo State into darkness.
The disagreement followed an earlier statement by IBEDC blaming the blackout on TCN’s alleged inability to deliver bulk electricity supply to its franchise area on Thursday, January 15, 2026.
However, TCN swiftly rejected the claim, insisting that its records did not support IBEDC’s narrative. In a statement issued on Friday by its spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, TCN said it did not impose any load shedding on the affected feeder during the period in question.
According to the transmission firm, the disruption was instead caused by a forced outage initiated by IBEDC itself.
“Our operational records show no load shedding imposed on the feeder during the referenced period. Rather, the Idowa 33kV feeder was taken out of service on a forced outage by IBEDC,” the statement read.
TCN further urged the electricity distribution company to exercise greater caution in its public communication, stressing the need for accuracy, particularly when addressing customers already grappling with unstable power supply.
“TCN encourages IBEDC to ensure that information shared with the public, especially its customers, is accurate and reflective of the situation on the ground,” the company added.
