The Ogun State Police Command has invited a prominent rights activist and social media commentator, Adetoun Onajobi, popularly known as JustAdetoun, over allegations of defamatory statements made against Governor Dapo Abiodun.
Confirming the development on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Boluwatife Babaseyi, said the activist had been formally invited and that her legal representative had already made contact with the command.
“We have extended an invitation to her and are awaiting her response. Her lawyer has reached out to us, and we expect further engagement shortly. Any fresh development will be communicated,” Babaseyi told journalists.
The invitation follows a series of videos circulated by Onajobi on social media, in which she launched scathing attacks on the governor’s person and administration. The videos were posted in the aftermath of a fatal road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in December 2025 involving Nigerian-British boxing star, Anthony Joshua.
Joshua reportedly lost two close associates and trainers when their sports utility vehicle collided with a stationary truck along the highway. The tragic incident reignited public debate over emergency response and road safety in Ogun State.
In her commentary, Onajobi accused the state government of failing to respond promptly to the accident, alleging that the victims were abandoned and later assisted by officials of the Lagos State Government. She further claimed that Ogun State lacked a single functional ambulance, insisting that despite her long-standing advocacy work, emergency medical support had repeatedly failed residents.
Beyond the criticism of infrastructure and emergency services, the activist was also alleged to have made personal claims against Governor Abiodun, including accusations bordering on misconduct, corruption and abuse of office.
Police sources say the invitation is aimed at allowing the activist to explain the basis of her claims, as part of an ongoing investigation into possible criminal defamation.
