The Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies, Iragbiji (FUADSI), Osun State, on Day Two of its maiden orientation programme, deepened efforts to properly integrate its pioneer students into university life, with lectures focusing on academic discipline, welfare services, digital learning, and funding opportunities.
The programme, held at the institution’s take-off campus in Oke Iragbiji, attracted top university officials, seasoned academics, and administrators who addressed the first set of students admitted into the newly established university.
Activities for the day commenced with the singing of the National Anthem, followed by opening remarks delivered on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mufutau Olaoye Atayese, who was ably represented by the University Librarian, Prof. Wasiu Lawal.
He charged the students to embrace discipline, diligence, and excellence as foundational values of the institution.
The Registrar, Mr. Tunde Afolabi; the Bursar, Mr. Akeem Adiagbo; and the University Librarian joined other principal officers at the session.
One of the highlights of the day was a lecture by Prof. Abiona Oluseye Oladapo of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), who spoke on Academic Affairs, guiding students on effective time management through the timetable system, preparation for tests and examinations, handling assignments, and understanding the calculation of GPA and CGPA.
He urged the students to “get it right from the beginning,” noting that early academic discipline often determines long-term success.
Also speaking, Prof. Moruff Sanjo Oladimeji, a Professor of International Business and Management at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, delivered a paper on Students’ Welfare Services in the University System.
He explained the importance of student support structures and encouraged the freshmen to take advantage of institutional welfare channels whenever necessary.
In another session, Engr. Akin Akinfenwa of the university’s ICT Unit took students through Students’ Registration and Learning Using the University Portal, while also creating awareness about the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
He provided practical guidance on online registration, digital learning platforms, and how eligible students could access education financing.
The orientation programme, which continues to draw commendation from participants, is aimed at equipping FUADSI’s pioneer students with the knowledge, values, and tools required to thrive academically and socially within the university system.
