A former Secretary General of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, and chieftain of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), Pa Ayo Opadokun, is set to unveil a new book titled The Gun Hegemony at a special book lunch in Lagos.

The event is scheduled to hold on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the Agip Recital Hall, Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos, by 11am prompt.

The book, described as a bold and incisive exploration of power, control and societal order, is expected to spark intellectual discourse on governance, authority and the evolving nature of political power in contemporary society.

Organisers of the event said the book lunch would bring together eminent Nigerians from the legal, political, academic and civil society communities to engage with the author and examine the themes and perspectives presented in the publication.

Pa Opadokun, a prominent lawyer and pro-democracy activist from Offa, Kwara State, is widely regarded as a key figure in Nigeria’s democratic struggle, particularly during the military era of the 1990s.

He played notable leadership roles within Afenifere and NADECO, both of which were at the forefront of the resistance against military rule and the advocacy for the restoration of democratic governance in the country.

The organisers noted that the unveiling of The Gun Hegemony would serve not only as a literary event but also as a forum for reflection on Nigeria’s political journey and the challenges confronting democratic institutions.

They added that the presence of invited guests would add distinction to what they described as an important intellectual gathering.
