The Oyo State House of Assembly has instructed its Committee on Ethics and Privileges to investigate claims of financial inducement levelled against the House Majority Leader, Sanjo Adedoyin.
The allegations were raised by Ibrahim Shittu, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) representing Saki West, who accused Adedoyin, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker for Ogbomoso South, of accepting bribes from a local government chairman to influence a legislative investigation.
The matter was brought before the House during plenary on Tuesday, with Speaker Adebowale Ogundoyin emphasising the need for a swift and thorough inquiry. “Members are cautioned against making false allegations,” the Speaker noted, directing the committee to complete its investigation and report back within one week.
Adedoyin, responding to the accusations, described them as “false and unfounded” and appealed to his colleagues to ensure that the House acts decisively. “I was wrongly accused of offering and receiving bribes from the Chairman of Saki West Local Government to influence or alter the course of an investigation against him,” he said.
Sources at the Assembly revealed that the rift between Shittu and his PDP colleagues has been ongoing, with Shittu previously raising concerns over the House’s approval of a loan for Governor Seyi Makinde under contentious circumstances.
The committee is expected to conclude its probe within the stipulated timeframe, as the Assembly seeks to uphold accountability and maintain public trust in its proceedings.
