Alhaji Dr Oriyomi Hamzat, the popular broadcaster and voice behind the grassroots movement slogan “Oyo n Pe o,” has formally ended his political neutrality, announcing his defection to the Accord Party and his intention to contest the Oyo State governorship election in 2027.

The announcement was made at a well-attended rally at Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, where supporters gathered to witness what Hamzat described as a historic moment for the people of Oyo State. Speaking passionately, he portrayed “Oyo n Pe o” as a citizen-driven initiative, insisting it was never designed to serve the personal ambition of any individual ahead of the forthcoming elections.

“I am here today to confirm that I will be on the ballot as the governorship candidate of the Accord Party,” Hamzat said. “This decision is born out of my desire to serve our people, not because of wealth or the backing of political godfathers at the state or federal levels. My strength comes from the support of ordinary citizens who believe in a better Oyo.”

Addressing his supporters, Hamzat urged adherence to peaceful conduct, warning against the use of violence in political mobilisation. He also reminded them of the importance of retaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing that genuine change can only be achieved through lawful and democratic means.
