The Executive Chairman of Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, Hon. Sulaiman Olatunji Laaro Omituntun has completed two major road projects and flagged off another within one year and three months in office.
This is a major boost to grassroots development and setting a new pace for infrastructural transformation in Offa.
The latest of the projects is the 1.1km Isale-Ago–Ogba Arogun–St. Claire’s Road, which was formally flagged off on Thursday, January 1, 2026, following the successful completion of the 1.1km Anilelerin–Ayaba–Iyeru Okin Road and over 400 metres of the Emiola–Unique–Olalomi Road.
Speaking at the ceremony on Thursday, Hon. Omituntun attributed the wave of development to the enabling leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, the Executive Governor of Kwara State.
He described the governor as the pillar behind the unprecedented transformation taking place across Kwara State.
“We thank God for giving us Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. If not for him, we would not be witnessing these massive developments in Offa and Kwara State at large,” he said.
He explained that shortly after the election, the governor directed all council chairmen to return to their communities and identify the most pressing needs of their people.
“When I returned to Offa and consulted widely, the people unanimously asked for good road networks. I was born and raised in Offa, and I know the yearnings of my people,” he noted.
Hon. Omituntun revealed that after consulting with the Olofa of Offa, His Royal Majesty, Oba Mufutau Muhammad Gbadamosi Oloyede Okikiola Esuwoye II, Ajagungbade I, the Anilelerin–Ayaba–Iyeru Okin Road was selected as the first project.
Construction began on March 7 and was commissioned on September 23.
He dismissed claims that the road was a Federal Government project. He stressed that Offa Local Government fully executed it.
“Within one year and three months, we have completed two major roads and today we are flagging off another 1.1km road. By the grace of God, we will complete this one as well,” he assured.
Beyond roads, the council under Omituntun has embarked on extensive infrastructural renewal.
These include the construction of seven culverts across different locations, reinforced drainage systems in three areas, renovation and furnishing of the legislative chamber, fencing of the council secretariat, and grading of 45 kilometres of roads across all wards.
In the education sector, the administration has constructed two blocks of fully equipped classrooms at Gaa Seriki, renovated classrooms at Yeke, provided scholarships to 38 indigent students at Olubunmi College of Health Science, and distributed 100 JAMB forms, 30 NECO forms, and 4,000 exercise books.
Women empowerment and health have also received attention, with 300 women benefiting from cash empowerment schemes, while the Igboidun Health Centre has been renovated and equipped.
The council has drilled eight motorised boreholes, repaired 18 others, procured tyres for graders and security vehicles, provided two transformers, repaired 16 transformers across the 12 wards, and installed 120 solar-powered streetlights.
The Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Muhammad Gbadamosi Oloyede Okikiola Esuwoye II, while addressing the gathering, commended Hon. Omituntun for redefining local government administration in Offa.
“I was among those who said Omituntun should be chairman, even when some people claimed nothing meaningful would be done. Today, he has proved them wrong,” the monarch said.
He lauded Governor AbdulRazaq for his special love for Offa and disclosed that no chairman in the history of Offa had recorded such a level of achievement within a short period.
“Kwara has never witnessed this level of transformation in Offa before. Omituntun has tarred two quality asphalt roads within one year and three months. This is unprecedented,” the monarch stated.
He also urged continuous prayers for the governor and the council chairman.
