Nigeria’s national electricity grid suffered a second collapse in less than a week on Tuesday morning, leaving millions of households and businesses across the country without power.
Data from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) indicated that as of 11:00 a.m., power generation had dropped to zero megawatts (MW), halting electricity supply to all 11 distribution companies (DisCos) nationwide.
This incident follows the first grid collapse of the year, which occurred last Friday, January 24, 2026, raising fresh concerns about the reliability of the nation’s power infrastructure.
At the time of reporting, neither the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) nor the Ministry of Power had provided an official explanation for the latest disruption, nor details on the ongoing recovery efforts.
