The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Saturday announced plans to establish a special intervention fund aimed at addressing infrastructural and academic challenges at the College of Agriculture and Renewable Natural Resources, Iseyin, a campus of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting at the Office of the Governor, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, Governor Makinde outlined that the intervention would prioritise essential facilities, including accommodation for students and lecturers, an Information Technology Centre, a healthcare centre, and transportation resources such as buses to improve mobility within the campus.
The governor, responding to concerns raised by attendees, revealed that the Oyo State Government had already invested approximately N15 billion into the Iseyin campus. He emphasised that the government would continue to take decisive steps to ensure the campus not only survives but thrives.
However, Governor Makinde cautioned staff, students, and host community residents against indiscipline and actions that could exacerbate the campus’s initial challenges. “The development of the campus is a shared responsibility. Stakeholders must cooperate with the government and the Governing Council to achieve sustainable growth,” he said.
He also urged students to engage the government through dialogue rather than resorting to protests, warning that demonstrations could lead to vandalism and undermine the institution’s progress.
