Makinde arrived at the State House shortly after Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The Oyo governor was ushered directly into the President’s office, where discussions were held behind closed doors. Makinde remains a prominent figure within the PDP and is a member of the influential G5 bloc of governors who openly opposed the party’s leadership decisions during the build-up to the 2023 general election. The group famously distanced itself from the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and threw its weight behind Tinubu, then the APC standard-bearer.
