The Kwara State House of Assembly on Friday approved a total budget of N656.5 billion for the 2026 fiscal year, marking an upward review of the initial proposal submitted by the executive.

The appropriation was passed following the consideration and adoption of the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation on the 2026 Appropriation Bill.

Chairman of the committee, Mrs Arinola Fatimoh Lawal, presented the report during plenary, which was presided over by the Speaker, Engr Yakubu Danladi Salihu.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had, in December 2025, laid before the Assembly a budget estimate of N646,004,816,893 for the 2026 financial year, seeking legislative scrutiny and approval.

However, after legislative review and adjustments, lawmakers approved an increased sum of N656.5 billion, representing an addition of about N10.5 billion to the original proposal.

The Assembly said the adjustment was informed by the need to strengthen the fiscal framework of the state and align expenditure projections with emerging developmental priorities.

With the passage of the budget, the lawmakers expressed confidence that the 2026 spending plan would further consolidate ongoing reforms and drive inclusive growth across key sectors of the state’s economy.
