The Kwankwaso National Network (KNN) has dismissed as false and misleading reports suggesting that the National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has endorsed the alleged defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and other state officials to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the network described the report as a distortion of facts, insisting that Senator Kwankwaso has neither approved nor supported any defection move by the Kano State governor.
According to KNN, the former Kano State governor merely acknowledged receiving complaints from some government officials, council chairmen and councillors who claimed they were being pressured to sign defection forms.
The group clarified that Senator Kwankwaso advised such officials that anyone acting under duress may comply with such directives, stressing that this advice should not be misconstrued as an endorsement of Governor Yusuf’s defection.
“Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains a bona fide member of the NNPP and the duly elected governor of Kano State on the platform of the party. It is therefore expected that he continues to uphold his responsibilities and loyalty to the party on whose mandate he was elected,” the statement read.
KNN further quoted Senator Kwankwaso as reaffirming that his supporters are well known to him wherever they may be and that when the appropriate time for political action comes, clear direction will be given.
He added that he remains hopeful to witness the 2027 general elections, noting that the right political path would be made known at the appropriate time.
The network urged members of the public to disregard what it termed “distorted and misleading” reports and rely only on verified statements from credible sources associated with Senator Kwankwaso.
Similarly, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has also dismissed the reports. Speaking to journalists in Kano, the state chairman of the party, Hashim Dungurawa, described the claims as false and misleading.
Dungurawa said Kwankwaso and other party leaders had made several attempts to prevail on Governor Yusuf to remain within the party, noting that the situation had remained challenging despite the interventions.
He appealed to the governor and his supporters to reconsider their position and stay within the NNPP, stressing that the people of Kano State had rejected any move away from the party.
The NNPP chairman further urged Kano residents and Nigerians at large to continue supporting the party and its leadership, expressing confidence that such loyalty would translate into electoral success in the future.
