Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has condemned what he described as the unruly and potentially dangerous conduct of some youths who breached security to gain access to the Government House during a recent political event.
The governor spoke at a meeting with leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and senior government officials, where he expressed deep concern over the incident that occurred during the ceremony organised to formally receive him into the APC fold.
He described the development as disturbing and wholly unacceptable, warning that such behaviour undermines Kano’s long-standing image as a state renowned for peace, discipline and respect for constituted authority.
Governor Yusuf cautioned that tolerating such actions could erode public confidence in governance and threaten social order, stressing that political activities must never be allowed to descend into chaos or lawlessness.
Accounts from the event revealed that a large number of youths gained entry into the Government House premises after following a political figure into the venue. There were allegations that some of the youths were armed with dangerous objects, while others were allegedly involved in the open use of hard drugs. Reports also indicated that provocative slogans were chanted, including calls for the removal of the deputy governor.
Raising the alarm during the meeting, the governor’s Special Adviser, Muhammad Jamu, described the situation as a grave security concern. He warned that the presence of armed or disorderly youths at government or political gatherings poses a serious threat to public safety and democratic stability.
Jamu insisted that such conduct must not be condoned under any guise, urging party leaders and government officials to work collectively to ensure stricter security measures and greater discipline at public events.
The meeting resolved that maintaining law, order and the sanctity of government institutions remains non-negotiable, as the administration seeks to safeguard Kano’s peace and democratic values while charting a forward-looking political path anchored on responsibility and restraint.
