Chief Atinuke Oyawoye Denies Endorsing PDP Caretaker Committee In Osun

Chief Mrs. Atinuke Oyawoye, a prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholder from Egbedore Local Government Area of Osun State, has dismissed claims that she endorsed the formation of a caretaker committee for the party in the state.

This was contained in a statement she personally signed and made available to newsmen.

Oyawoye described reports linking her to the alleged endorsement as false and misleading, insisting that she neither attended any meeting convened for that purpose nor supported such an arrangement.

She clarified that her presence at a recent gathering held at the residence of Baba Olu Alabi was purely in her capacity as an elder and veteran in Osun’s political landscape, committed to the second-term re-election of Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke.

According to her, all information available to her prior to the meeting indicated that it was meant to harvest the ideas, counsel and experience of PDP elders in support of Governor Adeleke’s re-election bid.

“At no point was I informed or made aware that the meeting would be used as a platform to endorse a so-called caretaker committee,” she said, adding that such an agenda was strange and unfamiliar to her.

Oyawoye further alleged that the caretaker committee narrative appeared to be sponsored by external forces bent on destabilising the peace, unity and progress recorded under the Adeleke administration in the last three years.

She said her expectation at the meeting was to contribute constructively, alongside other elders, towards strengthening the governor’s re-election campaign, in line with her long-standing commitment to the development of Osun State.

“As a progressive enthusiast and stakeholder in Osun State, I would never associate myself with any sectional or divisive agenda that runs contrary to the collective interest of our people,” she stated.

The PDP chieftain therefore categorically dissociated herself from any outcome of the meeting being circulated in the public space, reiterating that her loyalty and political focus remain firmly fixed on the re-election of Governor Adeleke.

“I will not compromise this commitment on the altar of any agenda that does not serve the general good of Osun State and the progressive leadership His Excellency represents,” Oyawoye said.
