The ancient city of Kano was on Saturday plunged into grief and disbelief following the brutal killing of a housewife and three of her children, while her infant was reportedly thrown into an open well within their family home.
The grisly incident occurred in the Dorayi Chiranci area of the Kano metropolis, sending shockwaves through the tightly knit community and leaving residents traumatised by the scale of violence unleashed on a single household.
Eyewitness accounts from the area indicated that unknown assailants allegedly attacked the family in their residence, slaughtering the woman and three of her children in cold blood. In what residents described as a horrifying act, the attackers were also said to have thrown the woman’s infant into a well inside the compound.
As of the time of filing this report, the identities of the attackers remained unknown, while the motive behind the attack was yet to be established. The timing of the incident and the circumstances that led to the killings were also unclear, as security agencies continued to piece together details.
Residents of Dorayi Chiranci described the development as unprecedented and deeply disturbing, noting that such a level of brutality was alien to the area. The incident has reportedly triggered palpable tension, with many residents adopting precautionary measures amid fears of further violence.
“This is beyond anything we have ever experienced here. People are scared, and everyone is being extra careful,” a resident said, lamenting the violent loss of innocent lives.
The killings have also reignited calls for improved security and stronger police presence in the area. Community members urged law enforcement agencies to act swiftly to track down those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.
Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Kano State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, could not be reached for comment as of press time.
