Kaduna State Government has attributed significant improvements in healthcare delivery to the construction of 785 road projects across the state under the administration of Governor Uba Sani.
The Commissioner for Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, said the massive investment in rural road infrastructure over the past two years had enhanced access to health services, particularly in underserved and hard-to-reach communities.
Maiyaki spoke on Thursday in Zaria while addressing media executives and editors at a high-level engagement organised by the Kaduna State Government in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund on strengthening media partnership for improved healthcare delivery.
He explained that the focus on rural road development, alongside nutrition financing, was a deliberate strategy to address long-standing health access challenges in the state.
According to him, expanded rural road networks have reduced travel time to primary healthcare centres, minimised delays in emergency referrals and improved the delivery of essential medicines to communities previously cut off from basic services.
“Through 785 rural road projects, the state has cut travel time to healthcare facilities, reduced referral delays and ensured last-mile delivery of medicines,” he said.
The commissioner added that better connectivity had also strengthened routine immunisation, antenatal care and community outreach programmes, allowing residents to access care promptly.
Maiyaki further disclosed that Kaduna State’s ₦750m investment in Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food had bolstered child nutrition and survival, describing the initiative as a major milestone.
He noted that the state had become the first sub-national government in Nigeria to commit domestic resources at such scale to RUTF, improving the detection and treatment of severe acute malnutrition and reducing reliance on emergency donor support.
He said the interventions were highlighted at the engagement to emphasise the role of infrastructure, nutrition and effective communication in improving public health outcomes.
Maiyaki stressed that the media remained critical to ensuring that communities understood and utilised available health services.
He maintained that under Governor Sani’s leadership, Kaduna State was demonstrating how strategic investments in infrastructure, nutrition and information could be translated into measurable health gains and improved living standards for residents.
