Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has asserted that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) derives its relevance almost entirely from former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Fayose made the remark on Friday during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, where he offered a blunt assessment of Nigeria’s opposition landscape.
According to the former governor, Obi remains the only politically vibrant figure within the ADC, arguing that other members of the party lack electoral weight and public appeal.
“Peter Obi is the only life in ADC,” Fayose said. “Every other person there is, at best, semi-existent. If Obi had remained in the Labour Party or even moved to the Accord Party, he would still be the only life there. The rest are old forces without real political presence.”
In the same breath, Fayose delivered a damning verdict on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that the party, which once dominated Nigeria’s political space, has effectively collapsed.
“Technically, PDP is no more. It is dead,” he declared, pointing to years of internal crises and leadership disputes that, in his view, have eroded the party’s credibility and cohesion.
However, Fayose cautioned against dragging Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, into the internal problems of the PDP, stressing that Makinde should not be held responsible for the party’s broader failures.
The former Ekiti governor also restated his political stance following the 2023 elections, noting that he openly supported President Bola Tinubu and has remained consistent with that position.
“I supported Tinubu in 2023, openly. I didn’t hide it, and I’m still there,” Fayose said. “But I am not a member of the APC, and I will never be. I don’t jump from one party to another.”
