The Oyo State media community has been thrown into mourning following the deaths of two radio presenters, Mr Kola Oladapo and Mr Idowu Ogunbunmi, whose passing was announced on Sunday.
The two broadcasters worked with different media organisations across the state and were widely regarded as influential voices in radio journalism within the South-West.
Mr Oladapo, until his death, was a presenter with Lagelu 96.6 FM, Ibadan. He was laid to rest on Sunday afternoon at the Sango Cemetery in the Oyo State capital. His burial was marked by an emotional gathering of family members, friends and professional colleagues.
In a tribute, the management of Lagelu FM described Oladapo’s death as unfortunate and deeply painful, noting that he lived a life defined by purpose, passion and humanity.
“He was a man of many talents who carried his greatness with humility and grace, leaving lasting impressions on colleagues, friends and listeners alike,” the station said in a statement.
The second broadcaster, Mr Ogunbunmi, was a staff member of Radio Nigeria FM, Oko, in the Ogbomoso axis of the state. He was also known for his impactful radio work on Rave FM in Osogbo, where he gained prominence as a vibrant commentator on governance, culture and public affairs.
An associate of the deceased, Chief Peter Taiwo Ogundeji, confirmed Ogunbunmi’s death, describing him as a rare professional whose passing represents a significant loss to the media industry and society at large.
“I received the news of the sudden death of my brother, Mr Idowu Ogunbunmi, with deep shock, pain and disbelief,” Ogundeji said.
