Popular Fuji star, Taye Akande Adebisi—widely known as Taye Currency—has added a new feather to his cap with the launch of his own radio station, Currency 93.1 FM, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The new station is expected to focus on music, entertainment, community engagement and youth-centred programming, positioning itself as a fresh voice in the state’s vibrant media space.
Residents of Ibadan and fans across the country have praised the development, describing it as a bold and progressive step for the entertainer and for Oyo State’s creative industry. Many believe the station will help nurture young talents and provide more platforms for local content.
With this venture, Taye Currency joins a growing list of entertainers expanding into media ownership. One of the most prominent examples is gospel singer Yinka Ayefele, founder of the Fresh FM radio network with branches in Ibadan, Abeokuta and other cities.
Known by admirers as “Apesin”, Taye Currency has built a reputation not only as a Fuji icon but also as a community influencer. In 2019, Governor Seyi Makinde appointed him Special Adviser on Culture and Tourism—an acknowledgment of his cultural impact in Oyo State.
He also bears the nickname “Baba Honourable”, a reference to his son, Yusuf Oladeni Adebisi, who was elected into the Oyo State House of Assembly in 2019 and re-elected in 2023 to represent Ibadan South-West Constituency 1 on the PDP platform.
With the launch of Currency 93.1 FM, industry watchers say Ibadan’s media scene is set for even stronger competition and innovation—particularly in music, entertainment, and youth development.
