Summit University, Offa, Kwara State, posthumously conferred an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Science (D.Sc. Honoris Causa) in Business Administration on the late industrialist and philanthropist, Alhaji Tiamiyu Adebisi Olatinwo.
This was in recognition of his outstanding contributions to commerce, education, and community development in Nigeria.
The award was formally presented during the university’s 5th and 6th Combined Convocation Ceremony at the Alhaja Adiat Abegbe Makanjuola Lecture Theatre, Summit University, Offa.
The convocation, which brought together dignitaries, members of the university community, and family members, celebrated the remarkable life and legacy of the late businessman.
The honorary degree was received by Dr. Engr. Taofeeq Kola Olatinwo on behalf of the family.
Engr Olatinwo described the recognition as “a profound testament to a life lived with integrity, discipline, and compassion.”
He added that the honour would continue to inspire younger generations to emulate their father’s dedication to service, education, and ethical business practices.
Born on August 29, 1933, in Offa, Kwara State, the late Alhaji Olatinwo—fondly called T.A.—was known for blending Western and Islamic education, which laid the foundation for his successful career.
He founded T.A. Olatinwo & Sons Ltd, a major distribution enterprise, and was a leading figure in the Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, rising to become National Deputy President and member of its Board of Trustees.
Alhaji Olatinwo was also deeply committed to education, serving as a School Manager and later Chairman of the Board of Governors at Ansar-ud-Deen College, Offa, and playing a key role in establishing Summit University, Offa.
His life of service earned him numerous titles and awards, including Babagbimo of Offa, Akowaso of Ara-Ekiti, and an Honorary Fellowship from the Federal Polytechnic, Offa.
The convocation ceremony not only honoured the late Alhaji Olatinwo but also celebrated his enduring impact on business, education, and community development.
The university described the event as “a historic occasion reflecting excellence, legacy, and inspiration for future generations.”
