The Siminalayi Fubara political realignment took another decisive step on Friday as the Tony Okocha-led faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State formally issued the governor his APC membership card in Port Harcourt.
Fubara completed his documentation at the Government House, days after publicly announcing his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC—an announcement that has reshaped the political temperature in the oil-rich state.
Okocha, who led members of the state executive committee on a courtesy visit to the governor, personally presented the membership card, describing the moment as a major boost for the party’s strength and structure ahead of 2027.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who was in Rivers for project inaugurations and flag-offs, witnessed the registration process, signalling federal backing for Fubara’s move.
Fubara’s entry into the APC is expected to deepen ongoing political shifts in the state, especially as the governor has repeatedly emphasised the need for peace, cooperation and alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s administration for the state’s development.
