The Osun State Government has faulted a public commentator, Oyewole Durotoye, over what it described as “reckless falsehoods and misleading claims” against the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, particularly in the health sector.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, Dr. Akindele Adekunle, in a statement issued on Monday, said the government was compelled to respond in order to prevent members of the public from being misled by what he termed “baseless allegations clothed in unearned intellectual garb.”
Dr. Akindele stated that Governor Adeleke, upon assumption of office, ordered a comprehensive needs assessment of all state-owned health facilities, which informed the decision to situate the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) facility at the newly delivered Alakija Hospital, purpose-built to host advanced diagnostic equipment.
He explained that installing another MRI facility at the existing teaching hospital would have amounted to unnecessary duplication, given the administration’s multi-front development agenda across the state.
The Special Adviser further clarified that the CT Scan machine at the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital was procured during the administration of former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola but was abandoned for over 12 years under successive APC-led governments.
He added that the Adeleke administration has since taken steps to restore functionality to the equipment while addressing the broader systemic decay inherited in the health sector.
According to him, more than 200 primary healthcare centres have been rehabilitated across the state, while Governor Adeleke has also approved the comprehensive renovation of Ede and Iwo General Hospitals, with full-scale work expected to commence in the first quarter of 2026.
Dr. Akindele challenged Durotoye to provide verifiable data to substantiate his claims of alleged deaths in state hospitals.
He added that Osun State would not have emerged as a consecutive winner of the National Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge if the health sector were performing as poorly as alleged.
He described the claims as “unscientific, unsubstantiated and misleading,” adding that true academic engagement must be rooted in facts, data and empirical evidence, not political propaganda.
The government also defended its ongoing road infrastructure development across the state, stressing that functional access roads are critical to effective healthcare delivery, especially during medical emergencies.
Dr. Akindele further highlighted that Osun State has recorded remarkable improvement in the education sector, rising from 31st to 7th position in national education ranking under the Adeleke administration, while tertiary institutions in the state are now receiving focused attention.
He reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Adeleke to sustained good governance, insisting that the administration would not be distracted by what he described as “baseless political attacks.”
