Bamiji Clement Adesuyi has clinched the governorship ticket of the Action Peoples Party in Osun State ahead of the 2026 election, following the party’s primary election held on Monday.
Adesuyi, who was the sole aspirant, secured the mandate of all 39 accredited delegates through an affirmation vote at the exercise.
In his acceptance speech, the APP candidate pledged to work tirelessly to reposition the party and ensure a united front ahead of the 2026 governorship contest. He stressed that internal cohesion would remain central to his strategy.
“I will do everything within my capacity to make this party succeed in the 2026 election. All members of the APP in Osun State are one family working towards a common goal,” he said, assuring supporters that their trust would not be betrayed.
Adesuyi also maintained that the primary election was conducted in strict compliance with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission, noting that due process and transparency were observed.
Earlier, the Osun State Chairman of the APP, Mr Oluseye Titus Odesola, described the primary as a significant milestone in the party’s growth, assuring delegates of a fair, peaceful and credible process. He urged members to respect party rules and uphold democratic values.
Also speaking, the APP National Organising Secretary, Barrister Obed Agu, commended party members in the state for their resilience, while cautioning against what he described as attempts to impose a one-party system in the country.
According to Agu, the APP would continue to defend democratic principles and reject any agenda that undermines genuine democracy.
At the conclusion of the exercise, Odesola formally announced that the 39 delegates present had unanimously affirmed Adesuyi as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2026 Osun election.
