The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has disclosed that she has been approached by individuals linked to the Presidency to defect to the All Progressives Congress, but insisted she has no intention of leaving the Peoples Democratic Party.
Akpoti-Uduaghan made the revelation during an interview on Mic On Podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, aired on Saturday, where she spoke candidly about political pressure, party loyalty and the realities of navigating public office as a woman.
The lawmaker said she remains comfortable and at peace within the PDP, stressing that she sees no compelling reason to join the ruling party despite overtures from influential quarters.
She explained that pressure and attempts at persuasion have been a recurring theme in her political journey, noting that she has learnt to stand her ground in the face of such challenges.
Recalling personal and political hurdles she has encountered, Akpoti-Uduaghan said she was once questioned about her political future following her marriage, with suggestions that she should contest elections in Delta State rather than Kogi. According to her, such moments only strengthened her resolve.
The senator revealed that although she was briefly associated with the APC at the early stage of her political career, she has since found her footing elsewhere and is not inclined to return.
She dismissed suggestions that she should follow prevailing political trends, emphasising that she would not succumb to threats or inducements aimed at influencing her political choices.
Akpoti-Uduaghan added that approaches to defect were not limited to the Presidency alone, noting that some of her colleagues had also made similar moves, including one as recently as a day before the interview.
“I love my space and my peace,” she said, reaffirming her commitment to the PDP and maintaining that her current political platform aligns with her convictions and aspirations.
