In a swift rebuttal to circulating reports, Nigeria’s 10th Senate President, Godwill Akpabio, has categorically denied claims that he collapsed and was airlifted to London for medical treatment.
Kenny Okolugbo, Consultant on Communications and Strategy to the Senate President, described the reports as unfounded. Speaking to our correspondent, he stated simply, “It’s a lie, fake news,” declining to provide further details.
The clarification follows claims made earlier on Monday by an online news platform, which suggested that Akpabio had collapsed and required urgent hospitalisation abroad. The Senate presidency has now moved to put an end to the speculation, affirming that the reports are entirely false.
The denial underscores ongoing concerns about the rapid spread of misinformation regarding public figures, particularly through online platforms. Observers have noted that such unfounded stories often generate unnecessary panic and confusion among the public.
Akpabio’s office has yet to provide additional statements, but the initial response appears aimed at quelling rumours and reassuring Nigerians about his health and capacity to discharge his duties.
