The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken a hard line on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of prioritising political advantage over national stability despite the state of emergency currently in force across the country.
In a strongly worded statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described as “deeply troubling” the President’s alleged distribution of branded vehicles to political foot soldiers under a movement identified as Renewed Hope Ambassadors. The ADC argued that the gesture amounted to an early kick-off of Tinubu’s 2027 re-election drive at a time when Nigerians are contending with relentless insecurity, mass displacement, and deepening public anxiety.
The party maintained that the developments on the ground — from serial kidnappings to recurring assaults on communities — ought to demand a singular focus on restoring order, not campaign-style mobilisation. Abdullahi said the optics were “cynically insensitive,” noting that the President appeared more invested in political continuity than in addressing the deteriorating security climate.
According to the ADC, entire communities remain vulnerable as security forces battle persistent threats, yet government allies have allegedly begun preparing the machinery for political rallies. The statement insisted that such actions run contrary to both the spirit and the letter of the Electoral Act, stressing that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had not opened the official window for campaigns.
The party further urged INEC to intervene decisively, warning that looking away from what it described as breaches could erode public confidence in the electoral process.
The ADC concluded by calling on President Tinubu to “return fully to governance” or acknowledge that his political ambition now risks obstructing Nigeria’s path to recovery, stability, and cohesion.
