Taraba Governor Kefas Hints At Possible Defection To APC

Speculation over the political future of Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has intensified following fresh indications that he may be preparing to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at a closed-door meeting with key political stakeholders on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the T.Y. Danjuma House in Jalingo, the governor hinted that his long-awaited decision would soon be made public.

“In the coming days, I will make my intentions known to the people of Taraba,” Kefas declared, drawing silence across the hall filled with political heavyweights from both the ruling and opposition parties.

The high-profile gathering, which observers described as a “bridge-building” engagement, featured politicians from diverse backgrounds — a reflection of the state’s increasingly dynamic political climate.

Although Kefas stopped short of making a direct pronouncement, his remarks were widely interpreted as a strong signal of his possible defection to the APC. His commendation of the ruling party for its “open door policy” towards new members only deepened that impression.

According to the governor, his political decisions are driven by the collective interest of Tarabans. “Whatever direction we take, it will be for the greater good of our people. We must continue to live together in peace, regardless of political affiliations,” he said, urging stakeholders to prioritise unity and progress above partisan considerations.

Governor Kefas reaffirmed that his administration’s focus remains anchored on inclusivity, peace, and sustainable development, adding that his ultimate ambition is to build “a Taraba of everyone’s dreams.”

The meeting also witnessed the presence of notable APC figures who openly praised the governor’s leadership approach and people-centred governance style.

Comrade Mustapha Salihu, APC North-East Zonal Chairman, who represented the party’s National Chairman, lauded Kefas for “placing the people’s welfare above partisan boundaries.”

“This gathering is not about party lines; it’s about the future of Taraba. Governor Kefas has shown uncommon leadership and maturity that puts the people first,” Salihu remarked.

Echoing the sentiment, the APC Deputy National Women Leader, Hajiya Zainab Ibrahim, commended Kefas for his reconciliatory disposition and inclusive governance. She hinted that the ruling party would gladly welcome him into its fold should he make the move official.

“Governor Kefas has demonstrated the kind of leadership the APC values—focused, unifying, and people-oriented. Our doors remain open to progressive leaders like him,” she said.
