Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to grassroots development with the flag-off of a 540-metre road construction along Alhaji Jimoh Drive and Baptist Church Street in Ijagemo, Ijegun, under the Iba Local Council Development Area.
The project, launched on Thursday, forms part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government to expand infrastructure and improve living standards in rural and semi-urban communities.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Mr. Nurudeen Agbaje, said the road would be completed within six months. He explained that the initiative would not only enhance access and connectivity but also boost economic activities in Ijegun and adjoining areas.
Agbaje disclosed that the new road would be equipped with solar-powered streetlights to improve visibility and security, while ensuring sustainability and reduced environmental impact.
He urged residents to cooperate fully with the contractors, stressing that community support was vital for timely completion of the project.
“This administration is deliberate about taking development to every corner of Lagos. The construction of Alhaji Jimoh Drive and Baptist Church Street aligns with the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda, which seeks to transform rural communities into thriving semi-urban centres,” Agbaje said.
Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, described the project as a clear demonstration of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s sincerity of purpose and determination to deliver on his promises.
She added that the initiative reflected the state government’s inclusive governance model and its resolve to ensure that no community is left behind in the drive for sustainable development.
Chairman of the Iba LCDA Community Development Committee, Mr. Thomas Agbogunleri, lauded the government’s intervention, commending Mr. Agbaje’s leadership and commitment to the governor’s rural transformation agenda.
He assured that the community would give full support to ensure the smooth and successful execution of the project.
