Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has urged the Federal Government to overhaul its security deployment strategy by recruiting and assigning military and police personnel to their states of origin.
Sani, in a post shared yesterday on his verified X account, argued that local familiarity remains a crucial advantage in the fight against terrorism and banditry. He maintained that security operatives who understand the terrain, culture and dynamics of their communities stand a better chance of disrupting criminal networks.
His intervention comes amid a renewed wave of insecurity sweeping across the country, with schoolchildren and rural communities increasingly targeted by kidnappers and armed groups.
Sani pressed for a structured recruitment process that focuses on regions with the highest levels of instability. He insisted that locally sourced personnel must not only be trained but adequately equipped with modern hardware to enhance their operational efficiency.
According to him, “those who come from affected communities know the landscape better than anyone,” a factor he believes could tilt the balance in favour of security forces battling insurgents and bandits.
