The Kwara State Police Command has successfully intercepted an alleged attempted robbery and planned murder in Ilorin, following a swift, intelligence-led operation described by officers as “decisive and tactically coordinated.”
According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, the breakthrough came when operatives arrested the principal suspect at the point he attempted to take possession of the victim’s vehicle.
The case began on 10 November when Abdulazeez Ishaq of Gerewu area reported to the police that Adekoya Opeyemi, also known as Justice, had confessed to being contracted by Abdulwahab Ahmad to kill him and steal his Honda Accord (2013 model). The suspects allegedly planned that Adekoya would tie up Ishaq, lock him in the boot of his car, and deliver the vehicle to Abdulwahab at Unity area, Ilorin, before travelling to Ibadan with the victim.
Acting on intelligence, police advised the complainant to cooperate while surveillance was mounted. The suspect was promptly apprehended at the agreed location, effectively foiling the attempted robbery and safeguarding the victim from imminent harm.
Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, commended the operatives for their professionalism and rapid response, emphasising that the Command remains committed to proactive policing and community partnership. He also lauded Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his visionary leadership, which continues to strengthen operational efficiency across the nation.
The CP urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities promptly, and continue supporting security agencies in their efforts to maintain public safety.
