[OPINION] Olofa Way Deserves To Be Dualisation, Not Rehabilitation

By Adunoye Basheer Adebayo

It is with deep concern that we express the disappointment of the people of Offa regarding the ongoing work on Olofa Way. The project, which many were made to believe would be a road expansion and dualisation, has turned out to be a mere rehabilitation exercise.

The Olofa Way is one of the most strategic and economically significant roads in Offa, serving as a vital link for commerce, transportation, and community interaction. Given its importance and the volume of daily traffic it accommodates, dualisation not rehabilitation is what the road truly deserves.

Before the commencement of the project, many residents and business owners willingly made huge sacrifices, including demolishing their shops and means of livelihood, believing they were contributing to a more modern and efficient Olofa Way. The hope of having a dual carriageway brought excitement and unity among the people. Unfortunately, it is now disheartening to discover that the current work is limited to surface rehabilitation, falling far short of what was promised or expected.

Even more troubling is the blockage from Oja-Ale, while construction begins from Owode Junction, making intra city movement extremely difficult and inconveniencing residents, traders, and commuters.

We therefore call on the State Government to revisit the scope of this project and honour the trust and sacrifices of the people of Offa. What Olofa Way needs and deserves is a comprehensive dual carriage expansion, not a temporary fix.

The people have shown faith and commitment; it is only fair that the government reciprocates with a project that truly reflects Offa’s growth, relevance, and future potential.
