The Executive Chairman of Offa Local Government, Hon. Suleiman Olatunji Omituntun, expresses deep displeasure over a viral video in which a cleric made wild, unverified, and highly provocative allegations suggesting that an indigene of Offa is sponsoring banditry. The same video also contained derogatory and inflammatory comments directed at the good people of Offa.
The Chairman condemns these statements in the strongest terms, describing them as dangerous, irresponsible, and capable of provoking unnecessary tension. He stressed that no individual or group should weaponize falsehood to malign the character of law-abiding citizens or tarnish the image of a peaceful community.
Hon. Omituntun emphasizes that Offa remains home to men and women of integrity individuals who are known for their commitment to peacebuilding, community advancement, and national development. Making baseless accusations against such people is not only defamatory but an attack on the collective reputation of Offa.
In view of the seriousness of the matter, the Executive Chairman calls on the Department of State Services (DSS) Headquarters to immediately track down the cleric behind the video, investigate his claims, and take necessary actions in accordance with the law. Public figures, especially religious leaders, must be reminded that their utterances carry weight and should not be used to spread misinformation or incite unrest.
Offa Local Government remains unwavering in its commitment to peace, unity, and the protection of the dignity of every citizen. We will continue to defend the truth and safeguard the honour of our people against any form of reckless defamation.
