A Deputy Superintendent of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Sani Yakubu, has pleaded guilty to charges of criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of ₦1.7 million.
Yakubu was arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) before Justice M. A. Isiaka of the Kaduna State High Court 12 on November 4, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the ICPC’s spokesperson, Mr. Demola Bakare, the accused was charged on three counts bordering on dishonesty and abuse of office. The offences contravene Sections 294, 300 and 86 of the Penal Code Law of Kaduna State.
The anti-graft agency alleged that Yakubu, while serving as an officer of the NSCDC, diverted ₦1,720,000 belonging to one Mrs. Vennica Idoko, which he had received on her behalf in his official capacity.
The charge sheet indicated that the funds, entrusted to him in the course of duty, were dishonestly misappropriated for personal use.
During his arraignment, Yakubu reportedly broke down in tears and admitted guilt to all three charges levelled against him. His plea prompted the trial judge to adjourn the case to November 12 for judgment and sentencing.
Speaking on the development, Mr. Bakare, who also serves as the ICPC Director of Public Enlightenment and Education, reaffirmed the Commission’s resolve to ensure accountability within the public service.
He stressed that any public official found abusing their position for personal enrichment would not escape justice.
“This case is a clear message to all public officers that corruption, regardless of scale or status, will not go unpunished. It erodes public confidence in institutions and undermines the integrity of governance,” Bakare said.
