A remorseful young man in Adamawa State has expressed deep disappointment after the three girlfriends for whom he stole packs of noodles failed to visit him throughout his time in custody.
Twenty-four-year-old Usama Abdullahi, a resident of Shelleng, spoke candidly when he appeared before the Adamawa State Jail Delivery Committee, a special mobile court undertaking statewide reviews to ease congestion in correctional centres.
Abdullahi told the panel that he stole multiple cartons of instant noodles and shared them among the three women he was dating at the time. According to him, he fled Shelleng for Shani shortly after the theft, but was eventually arrested and prosecuted.
He disclosed that despite risking his freedom for them, none of the girlfriends made a single trip to check on him after he was sentenced.
Before the committee’s intervention, Abdullahi was serving a two-year jail term handed down by a Shelleng court while he worked at a local car wash. His sentence was being carried out at the Shelleng Satellite Custodial Facility.
In its review, the committee, chaired by the Chief Judge of Adamawa State, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman, reassessed the punishment and converted the custodial sentence into community service within the correctional facility.
