The Lagos State Government has intensified its clampdown on unauthorised developments across the state, sealing a construction site and ordering the removal of illegal structures within the Lekki–Ikoyi corridor.
The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), during an enforcement exercise on Thursday, sealed a building under construction on Femi Okunnu Road, Alexander Avenue, over the developers’ failure to secure the necessary building permits.
In addition, the agency issued a 72-hour ultimatum to QMB Mart, located along Coastal Road and beneath a powerline, directing the removal of all structures erected without approval.
Speaking on the operation, the Special Adviser to the Governor on E-GIS and Urban Development, Dr Olajide Abiodun, said the affected property was initially designated as a parking area but had been illegally converted for commercial use.
“The occupants allegedly turned the site into a commercial hub, erecting a laundromat, clubhouse, and eatery without proper authorisation,” he explained.
Dr Abiodun stressed that the government would not tolerate any form of unlawful conversion or building without approval.
“Development in Lagos must follow due process. Any structure built without approval or any change in the use of government-allocated spaces without authorisation is illegal. We are committed to ensuring that the state’s master plan is respected,” he said.
Also speaking, the General Manager of LASBCA, Mrs Gbaye Florence, reiterated the agency’s resolve to maintain strict oversight on building activities across the state.
“Our duty is to ensure that all buildings in Lagos comply with safety standards and global best practices. Any structure erected without approval will be identified, marked, and subjected to enforcement action,” she said.
LASBCA noted that the ongoing enforcement drive is part of broader efforts by the Sanwo-Olu administration to sanitise the construction sector, prevent building collapse, and promote orderly urban development across the metropolis.
