The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has issued a stern warning following recent comments by the United States President Donald Trump, who threatened potential military action in Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.
Trump had earlier directed the U.S. Department of Defence to prepare for possible intervention, after designating Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” for religious freedom violations.
A counterterrorism analyst, Zagazola Makama, disclosed in a post on his official X handle that ISWAP reacted through a propaganda message circulated on its regular communication platforms.
According to Makama, the extremist group described Trump as a “reckless American tyrant,” alleging that he was influenced by “evangelical Christian and Jewish advisers” during his administration.
The group accused the U.S. of using the guise of religious protection to advance what it termed a Western agenda of domination, claiming that America sought to portray itself as a “global defender of Christians” while undermining Muslim nations.
In the message, ISWAP reportedly called on Muslims across West Africa to unite and take the U.S. threat seriously, alleging that the West continues to commit “crimes against African Muslims.”
The group further advised its fighters to exercise caution by avoiding the use of smartphones, steering clear of large gatherings, and limiting movement to prevent surveillance or targeted strikes.
