The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is in mourning after one of its senior officers, 39-year-old Funmilayo Oluwamayokun Lasisi, and her teenage daughter, Sewa, were discovered dead in Osun State over the weekend under circumstances suggesting ritualistic activity.
The officer, a Superintendent and Route Commander overseeing multiple strategic routes, and her daughter had been reported missing on the morning of Sunday, November 2, after leaving their home at Obasanjo Hilltop Estate, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. Efforts by family members and colleagues to contact them were reportedly unsuccessful.
Eyewitnesses and family sources told our correspondent that the remains were recovered at a suspected herbalist’s residence in an undisclosed Osun community. Parts of the bodies were reportedly mutilated. The herbalist is currently at large, although his wife has been arrested by authorities.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, confirmed that the Osun State Police Command had arrested suspects and recovered exhibits believed to be body parts of the officer and her daughter. He noted that the Osun Command is leading the investigation, with Ogun State police providing necessary support.
“The Osun command has commenced investigation, and they have made some arrests. They found some exhibits that are body parts. For convenience’s sake, Osun will be investigating the matter, and we will be lending the necessary support. The suspect is with them,” Ogunlowo said.
The tragic incident has sparked renewed concern over ritual killings in the country. Similar cases have been reported in recent years, including the discovery of the mutilated remains of a 16-year-old boy in Ogun State in July and the dismembered body of Lagos-based businessman Ignatius Adunukwe in January 2020.
FRSC colleagues and family members are appealing for swift justice and are calling on authorities to intensify efforts to curb ritualistic practices and protect vulnerable citizens.
