Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has formally pitched his tent with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking yet another major turn in his fast-evolving political trajectory.
El-Rufai completed his registration on Thursday at the ADC office in Ungwar Sarki Ward, where he was issued his membership card, signalling his full adoption of the platform.
The development comes months after the former governor exited the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a party he helped midwife during the 2013 opposition merger. He had earlier defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), but his stay there was short-lived.
El-Rufai, in his March 10 resignation from the APC, lamented that the party had derailed from the core principles on which it was founded. He accused the leadership of becoming unresponsive to internal concerns and failing to uphold the progressive values that once defined the platform.
The former FCT Minister had repeatedly voiced his dissatisfaction with what he described as the party’s unhealthy internal climate, noting that his concerns—raised both publicly and privately—were ignored for nearly two years.
His move to the ADC appears to be part of a broader political recalibration. In his resignation letter from the SDP dated November 26, El-Rufai said he was withdrawing from the party to support the emergence of a more unified and credible political alternative for Nigerians.
“I wish to notify you that I have resigned my membership of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, effective 26 November 2025,” he wrote.
