CUPP Backs Foreign Intervention If Killings Persist

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has said it would welcome international intervention if the Federal Government fails to decisively end the growing wave of killings and insecurity across the country.

The National Secretary of the coalition, Peter Ameh, stated this on Sunday in Abuja while reacting to recent remarks by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who criticised Nigeria’s deteriorating security situation.

Ameh stressed that Nigerians, irrespective of religion, ethnicity, or political leaning, deserve full protection under the law. He noted that the recurring attacks and displacement of innocent citizens have reached an alarming level requiring immediate and coordinated government action.

“We will welcome foreign support if the Federal Government fails to end these killings. The violence must stop, displaced persons must return to their homes, and those behind the attacks must be brought to justice,” Ameh said.

He urged President Bola Tinubu to direct the nation’s military and security agencies to intensify operations against criminal groups and deploy all available intelligence and resources to dismantle their networks.

The CUPP scribe also recommended that the Federal Government set a 90-day performance target for measurable progress in the fight against insecurity, with bi-weekly operational reports submitted to the Presidency to track achievements and challenges.

Reaffirming the coalition’s opposition to negotiating with criminal groups, Ameh maintained that law enforcement must adopt firm, proactive, and result-oriented measures to restore peace across affected communities.

“Our appeal is for decisive action. If the government fails to act, we will support any legitimate international effort that helps to end these senseless killings and safeguard the lives of Nigerians,” he added.
