Bandits have reportedly staged a brazen attack on farmers in Bokungi village, Edu Local Government Area, kidnapping four individuals this evening in a serious escalation of insecurity in the region.
The incident occurred between 6:30 PM and 7:00 PM, as the farmers were working on their rice farmlands during the harvest period.
Nupekotv confirmed the attack after speaking with a resident of the community who narrated the frightening sequence of events.
According to the source, the victims were at their farmlands to retrieve harvested rice when the bandits struck. The resident explained that the assailants attacked two separate groups:
The first attack resulted in the abduction of two people who were packaging their harvested rice.
Simultaneously or shortly thereafter, the bandits abducted another two people from a neighboring farm.
In total, four people were taken captive in the coordinated attack.
The attack has thrown the Bokungi community into a state of panic, marking a devastating conclusion to the harvest season for the victims’ families. The incident highlights the growing vulnerability of farmers and residents in rural Kwara communities who are essential to the state’s agricultural output but remain targets for criminal elements.
